This is a great reference card to with the sextant. Great summary of celestial navigation concepts, and a quick and easy-to-use sight reduction form. Two quick items: this reference card is based on Pub 249 for lookups (including Pub 249 Volume 1); and this is not really oriented toward absolute beginners (as the concepts and reduction form are easier to understand with some context). Looking forward to taking it on the water! Very highly recommend

Yes, it's a sturdy, laminated "cheat sheet." But you have to know background celestial navigation stuff pretty clearly to use it optimally. Good enough for intended use, but don't kid yourself-- you'll still need a lot of study to navigate accurately.

We have thousands of dollars invested in our electronic navigation system. But one lighting strike can out all that in a fraction of a second.So we put together an Emergency Navigation Kit for our travels around the Caribbean and this was one of the primary parts of it. Absolutely required if you are going out of view of land.PS. Don't wait until you lose power to find out how to use it. Practise often.

This is an exceptional and elegant description of "why", "what you are doing" and "how to get a result" in celestial navigation. So much teaching in this subject is procedural without explanation. This brief card cuts through to the guts of the problem.I will recommend it without qualification to whoever wants to listen, regardless of the fact that someone scewed up in the production layout so that you can't break off the stub as they suggest. (You'll see what I mean when you buy it, but my recommendation is "Buy it!!")

This is a very heavy duty celestial navigation aid, with perforations to break it up so as to fit in a case with a Davis sextant. It is an accurate quick reference tool. It serves its purpose well.

Although don't count on learning celestial navigation from them, they certainly work well as a memory aid when taking sights.
