As advertised with complete setup.
This is exactly what I ordered and seems sturdy and that it will work well. It has everything needed to set it over a fire and get cooking, plus a nice carrying case. I had to figure out how to get the rubber stoppers off the screw heads because they required pliers to remove, but that was no problem. The bottoms will need to be kept up (cleaned and oiled) as they have no bases will sink into into the ground a bit- also not a big problem. Excited to get out there and use it.

A Good Product
It seemed wobbly at first, but turned out being quite sturdy. It held a cast iron 12-inch Dutch oven full of chili (pictured). The carrying case was a selling point for me, and I'm glad it came with one. This case allows you to carry it in your car/vehicle without getting soot on everything. The case also helps you keep up with the tripod better; I like that mine was black with a noticeable, bright, yellow zipper. The chain is also sturdy and is a good size for large pots.

This thing is SOLID!
This thing is SOLID! Taller version of the Lodge tripod. Many fire set sellers out there sell a smaller version around 48" or so standard so get this if you want taller. This is NOT forged iron so it doesn't look historical but so be it. The long chain and hook maximize functionality over the fire without having to buy a trommel hook that can nearly cost you just as much as the fire set. Consider getting a carrying/storage bag or you'll have soot/ash everywhere this thing touches. The retailed bag for it (make sure you are looking at the Tall Boy version) is crap, overpriced and hard to come by. BAG SOLUTION? Hop on over to Jas. Townsend, get their number, call them and say you want a 60" version of their fire set bag. Shockingly affordable and superbly made.

Easy to transport
The legs of this item are friction fit together and aren't the most sturdy. Plus, in order to set it up you have to adjust the legs at the apex so they all sort of lean on each other and it will stay upright. You'd think I'd give it fewer starts but it's exactly what I was looking for. It's breaks down to a small size and fits in a case about the size of a large tent pole bag. It's not the sturdiest or most rugged but I assumed it wouldn't be when I got it. It's held in excess of 30 lbs and I have no reason to believe it wouldn't hold more. The key is getting the legs to settle in at a position that's nice and secure. I spent a lot of time messing with hit when I first got it but now I don't even think about setting it up. If you need something heavy duty, this isn't the best option. But if you're looking for a nice camp tripod that's in a convenient and small package, get it! If mine broke for whatever reason (can't see that happening) I would get another.

Very Nice Sturdy Tripod. Buy the 60 inch.
I am impressed with the quality of this tripod and chain. I read other reviews where a few hadn't received the chain with their order, at first opening I thought I too was missing the chain but after further inspection into the triangle box the tripod was packaged in, I found my chain wrapped in a plastic bag with hook. I was surprised at the thickness of the chain too, you could pull a car out of the ditch with it I think, lol. I am very happy with the functionality and quality of said unit and I do recommend buying the 60 inch model. I read other reviews that had ordered the 48" and said they were pretty short so I ordered the 60' and am very happy I did. It'll be perfect. I also bought the Sunnydaze fire pit wood grate. I love it. Thanks for reading.

Perfect tripod for cooking over an open fire!
First off, this is the tallest tripod I could find and I'm glad I didn't settle for a shorter one. We have a farely large fire pit at camp and I can easily access it without even bending down or stepping in the pit. It's super durable and worth every penny!

Great Product Yet Needs Instructions
Very well made! Really needs instructions! I could not figure out how to get the three legs to keep the hook centered. Maybe it's a design flaw. Maybe it's not supposed to center at all, and maybe it doesn't matter. It drove me nuts!

Just what I needed
Don't pay any attention to the negative comments about being unsteady or unstable. I used this on my last camping trip...I am pretty picky but I thought it was plenty sturdy and safe with a heavy 12" cast iron dutch oven hanging on it. There were 5 men and 4 boys running around the campsite and I wasn't the least bit worried that it was going to get knocked over. I mean, you Do need to pick a good spot; not in the middle of the campsite. You, Of Course, have to stick the legs in the ground. It's not going to sit safely on a patio or deck. If you can't tell that by looking at the picture, you probably shouldn't try to use a hanging dutch oven over a fire...maybe you shouldn't even build a fire...as a matter of fact, you may not even want to go camping; just stay at home and cook in your indoor kitchen.

I got this because I wanted a breakdown tripod to go canoeing with to use my dutch oven. I like the carry case and design for the most part - compact but it still is quite heavy. Each leg has three sections and you can lighten it up by only using two if you want it lighter. The threaded rod ends come with plastic caps to protect the threads. The chain is long enough, actually quite overkill for just hanging a pot or dutch oven from it, would prefer a lighter chain myself. The only thing I don't really like is the coupling pieces that are welded on to the end aren't all straight from poor manufacturing resulting in kind in the legs. There's no reason this should happen with the manufacturing, especially being from Lodge.

Excellent build, durable and highly recommend. Takes 5 minutes to assemble and the carrying bag is ideal.

It's a great product and will work fine, but some where the welds and joins are the paint has peeled and the joins are rusted. Will look worn after being used over a fire anyway, but just not what I'd expect from a new product.
