hi would these be suitable for a 1 year old? he is a big 1 year old and very condfident in the water?

The may slip off his arms, I have them for a 4 year old and they are perfect for her. She`s quite a big child for her age. But they are fantastic and have given her a lot of confidence, she now no longer needs them in her lessons. I highly recommend them as a product. Unsure about the size for a 1 year old.

Can they be used with a swimming jacket?

I think the jacket would make too much bulk. At the lessons my grandson is with babies up to 4 year olds. The zoggs seems to be all they need from about 2. They soon learn to float unaided. Hope this helps. My three year old has 2 on each arm. Hope this helps.

Should the discs interlock so they are tight together?

I think they should, but I never do. I want to be able to whip one off each arm quickly and then be able to replace just as quick, if the child is not ready for just one, or if I change stroke and they need a different level of buoyancy. But I have six children in the water for just 30 mins, and every second counts.
