Presto 02970 Professional SaladShooter Electric Slicer/Shredder

I bought this originally to make salads. I'm tired of buying the plastic bags with the carrots and radishes in them and have it spoil in 2 days. So I bought this. I still slice the lettuce by hand but everything else gets shredded or sliced into the salad bowl. I found out some members of the family do not like radishes at all, so sometimes I slice or shred each vegetable into plastic containers and keep everything separate. The lettuce is still in the bowl and everyone picks what they want in their salad: grated carrots, sliced mushrooms, sliced radishes, sliced cucumbers, shredded cheddar cheese, etc. I am finding that having a salad on a daily basis is much easier with this device. It cleans very easily; just handwash or place in dishwasher (top rack). I buy cheddar cheese in bulk at a warehouse club and shred half into a plastic container. This methods works very well in saving money and you have real shredded cheese without the powder stuff that you get in a bag at the store. The professional size does allow you to shred a whole potato into a skillet very easily. I bought the fine grater attachment from Presto to grate carrots and apples into cake mixes or other recipes in order for the younger children to eat more vegetables. I don't like to steam carrots, puree them, then add them to a recipe to be cooked a second time. This is a great way to sneak in veggies without a child protesting and without having to pre-cook and puree the vegetable. It is very hard for a person to pick out the finely shredded zucchini and carrot from a meat and rice dish. I looked up a popular "salad" cake recipe using a yellow cake mix with shredded carrots, apple and zucchini. I used 1/2 cup of olive oil in place of eggs with the shredded apple, carrot, and half a zucchini with great success. The cake was very moist. I haven't cut my hands with either of the cones. Note that when you go to the Presto website the grey cone for slicing is the same that comes with this boxed set. I didn't know that, so I now have two cones that are for thin slices. I do use both the regular shredding cone and the fine shredded cones alot. I haven't shredded cabbage yet with this. I did slice half an onion and it did a great job of slicing it thinly. I don't regret this purchase. Hope it lasts longer than the two year warranty. I love it!

I had one of these when they first came out, and we wore it out. I didn't realize they were still around until I saw them on Amazon. With Rheumatoid Arthritis taking over my hands and life, it is no longer a pleasure being in the kitchen, its more of a job. I dread mealtime and its sad. I saw this but the price was beyond my range because I am on SSDI ($around 60.00), then I saw the other Prime Prices, in the warehouse. New but possibly repackaged, returned due to a slight blemish on the product that doesn't affect the use. In my price range and with my Swagbucks Gift Cards it only cost me $15.00. Note: We can't even find the blemish and my 19 year old tried because she delights in seeing just how picky some people can be. The blemish must really be slight if its there at all. It was delivered on Saturday and we finally used it last night. I remembered from last time to freeze block cheese for at least 1/2 hour, but not more than 45 minutes before grating it. And a clean up tip, if you're not going to be able to clean the cheese grater immediately - stick it in the freezer after cleaning out the bottom part, or you'll have gummed up cheese. If you are making hash browns shred potatoes, onions, and cheese into one bowl, mix them up, then what I do is put them into a jelly roll pan and bake until the potatoes are soft, and cut into individual sized portions, and freeze them for quick meal add ons or snacks. I always skip the salt, add fresh garlic, pepper and a bit of chili powder. You can figure out what works best for you. One thing we really like is fried potatoes but we don't make them more than once a month because of the fried part. Getting them browned up on the bottom, while soft is just not possible with slicing them the way they need to be, slicing them with my hands. Put them through this using the thin slicer, and they came out so nice, had to use less than 1 tablespoon of oil, grated an onion in with them and they were nice and crispy brown on the bottom, and then we grated Wisconsin sharp cheese on top, a little bit of cheese goes a long way with this, and that was dinner. My daughter had second helpings and then thirds, it was amazing for her. She is very sensitive to noise, and it is loud for her, for me it is not an issue. It works, it doesn't hurt my hands and I love it. Even if you don't have arthritis there is the time saving, and the economical savings to consider. Compare the cost of grated cheese to block cheese. Yes you can grate with a hand grater, but can you go through a block in less than 10 seconds? This does. Then you can flash freeze it in individual serving sizes if you want - and the fact that it looks like you're getting a whole lot more than you are getting, it works well for stretching the food dollar, another important consideration for us. If you know someone who has arthritis, is looking to do the freezer cooking that's so popular, gardening, and wants to put away things in the freezer this will save them time and money. I'm glad that I bought it, I love it and I highly recommend it. Now if I could just get it to cube potatoes for potato salad it would be perfect. Have a great day and thanks for reading the review. Love this salad shooter. I have sliced potatoes, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, and other things. I was thrilled that it sliced sweet potatoes because they are so hard to sliced by hand.

I've been trying to incorporate more whole foods in our meals. However, slicing up tons of veggies can be quite time consuming. I ordered the Presto 02970 Salad Shooter a few days ago, received it with free 2-day shipping (thank you PRIME!), and couldn't wait to rip it out of the box and get started. I started with some small, English cucumbers. I was able to put about 3 in the chute at once. I used the thinnest slicing attachment and got super-thin, almost paper-thin slices for a dish. Used the larger size slicer for the onions to get those a bit thicker. All of this was done in a matter of one minute or less! Took longer to wash and slice the ends off the veggies than the actual Salad Shooter took to slice them. So this dish that would normally take me 10+ minutes to make, took only 2 from start to finish! WOW! The Salad Shooter just shot them right onto a plate. Kinda fun to use, actually! Next, I moved on to slicing some beets super thin to make beet chips baked in the oven. Amazing! This gadget worked SO GREAT! I cut the large beet into 3 long chunks and sliced up enough beet chips for a party in less than a minute. Can't wait to try it on other fruits/veggies to make healthy, homemade snacks. The slicer/grater blade holder turns and comes off so easily. I just rinsed mine under warm water with a drop of dish soap. Came clean without any scrubbing. I'm sure you'd need a little more work to get the grater clean if you used it with cheese, but with fruits and veggies, it just rinses clean. The motor section should be fairly difficult to get dirty, but is easy to just wipe clean. The power cord is plenty long, too. Perfect length without being in the way. I haven't tried the cheese grater yet, since I just received the Salad Shooter yesterday, but I know others have said it works beautifully for that. Can't wait to try that out, too. I have started a little gardening. I hope to be able to use this gadget to help me can and preserve the fruits (and veggies) of my labor! One bonus that I want to tell everyone about is that you can get this Salad Shooter for almost half the price of the regular one by going to the Warehouse Deals. There's even a link on the description page for this one. I was able to get it super cheap. There is another version of the Salad Shooter, but with fewer attachments. I would go ahead and get the 02970 model just so you have everything you'll need and won't regret not getting the extra attachments.

This means, we make 4-8 pizzas from scratch and invite everyone whom can come over. It was super annoying having to have one person grate cheese all night, so we started buying per-shredded- talk about more expensive and it had a "waxy" texture; because that is what the manufactures put on the per-shredded cheese so it doesn't stick to itself. Finally, at a totally non pizza related event, I was telling my friend how I made my own laundry detergent which involved grating a whole bar of soap and a little old lady whom overheard the conversation asked if I had tried a salad shooter to grate the soap- than ranted how great it was for cheese. Long and short of it, turns out my mom in law had one- which was a gift and never used. I used it during a huge family get together at her house when we were making cheese and it was like I had invented fire. Everyone at the family gathering went nuts. How many years have we spent grating our own cheese?! Needless to say, We are all in love with the salad shooter. I love this one because it is twice the size of my mom in laws, and I believe the motor will hold up better (after about 10 minutes of using her small one, it starts to smell, but it has been sitting in a cupboard for who knows how long). Buy this thing if you cook!! To be honest, it will take up some space and it isn't that pretty to look at it- but it is so awesome and worth it!! This unit is twice the size as the ones from the stores. It is fairly easy to wash if you just rinse it out as soon as you are done using it. The cheese goops up in it sometimes, but that isn't an issue. Sometimes when assembling for use, if you don't push the cone in all the way, the salad shooter wont start, so just push and jiggle the cone until it goes. P.S. I also ordered the small shredding cone from the presto web site for mozzarella- don't waist your money on the tiny hand crank cheese shredders like olive garden has.

I should have had one years ago but no one told me how wonderful the Salad Shooter is. My husband loves it also & uses it equally. I keep it on the counter next to the coffee maker with the large slicer attached. It's small, pretty & gets used almost daily. Cucumbers, yellow squash, zucchini - rinse, cut small slice off ends & drop in Salad Shooter. Out the other end come beautiful slices that get eaten in our salads instead of looking good in the refrigerator. Mushrooms slice in a few seconds & look so attractive on casseroles or salad. Wash 3 potatoes, cut in half & insert in SS. I shoot them directly onto a cookie pan. Spritz a little oil or not - add some paprika & grated parmesan - into a 350 oven for 25 minutes & instant potato chips that are good for you. Radishes, celery, lettuce head, cabbage - everything comes out looking beautiful. Switch to grating cone & I can grate 2 pounds of cheddar or other cheese in about 2 minutes. I place it in a plastic tub for use during the week. The SS is easy to clean - no cuts on hands from knives or hand graters. We read the reviews about the noise. It is noisy - for about 30 seconds but who cares? Our cats are not afraid of it. My husband loves salads & makes a big one for both of us. How I wish I had owned this when my children were growing up. It is so light to hold, powerful, pretty - I am going to give it for gifts from now on. I keep the other cones in a zip bag under the counter. I can't find anything bad about this appliance. What a wonderful addition to our family. 4/18/2009 Back with more info. After 6 months I am still in love with this kitchen toy. Now - for the men who longed for sliced cheese. Buy an 8 ounce block of cheddar, Monterey Jack etc. set up cheese on end on paper towel or plastic wrap. Use a fairly sharp knife & cut the package in half lengthwise so you have 2 tall pieces of cheese about 6" tall by 2" wide. Place one block at a time in your SS with the slicer cone & shoot slices into a container (I like the plastic containers that come with luncheon meat). Carry your container of cheese slices & a box of crackers to the TV or your computer & you have perfect little appetizers.

This product is for 120 voltage AC but in the UK we have 220 voltage AC so it is useless for UK customers

We bought this for our catering company and it gets used many many times per day, everyday. There has been absolutely no issues with dullness, breaking, motor not keeping up. We've had it for over 2 years now and it just keeps on going without fault. It's so easy to take apart and clean. I bought 2 more, 1 for myself and 1 for my daughter-in-law.
