Product Description The legendary tuba virtuoso Roger Bobo called Tom McCaslin a great tubist and wrote tht the repertoire on this CD is the most interesting that there's been in a very long time. The CD is a winner. I predict it will be a big seller. McCaslin has performed with the Auckland Philharmonia, Minnesota Orchestra, Detroit Symphony, and Boston Symphony Orchestra. He has presented recitals worldwide. Review Once again Crystal Records casts its capacious net and lands some fish. The tuba and piano combination is not one that immediately brings to mind many imperishable masterpieces, but this disc runs the gamut of stylistic affiliations to produce some intriguing examples of the genre and also not of the genre...Splendid performances then are allied to good sound and an eclectic, never off-putting repertoire. --MusicWeb, Dec. 2009...his (McCaslin) quest for contemporary tuba repertoire results i a delightful recital disc devoted to truly inventive and stylistically varied music...In all, this is a stimulating, excellently produced and annotated release that tuba fans of all stripes cannot afford to miss. --Gramophone, Sept. 2009There's a lot to like about this album. The material is fresh, the playing is inspired and the production is excellent. McCaslin's sound is full and rich and flows very naturally. But what is more striking than that is how musically he plays. --Tubanews.com, Jun. 2009

Fun, unique recording from a fantastic tuba player.
I had the pleasure of hearing Tom play at East Carolina (where he runs the Tuba studio) recently. He is a wonderful player and this is a fine recording. The Salguiero cONCERTO fOR tUBA (yes, I have the letter cases correct...) is a piece that manages to be exceptionally playful without sounding like "Baby Elephants on Parade". Over-all, a fun and unique recoding.

Great new music for tuba
This is an excellent opportunity for tuba players to listen to a wonderful performance of new literature for their instrument. I especially like the Pilafian "Relentless Grooves II" (Armenia). Fun to listen to, even for non-tuba players.
