FRAM FV346 Positive Crankcase Ventilation PCV Valve
Product ID: 128149606
PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. The PCV valve was the first of the emission system components to be put into production vehicles. Critical to emissions compliance testing, FRAM PCV Valves can help to ensure that your vehicle meets the emission standards. Regular maintenance helps to avoid poor engine performance, rough idling, and stalling. To remove the PCV valve, just pull it out of the valve cover and pull off the hose. To test the PCV valve, start the engine, pull the valve out of the valve cover and put your thumb over the hole in the end. If you hear a little click, then the PCV valve is good. If there is no vacuum at the hole, either the valve is bad or the hose is bad. To see if the hose is bad, pull the hose off and put your thumb over the end. If there is vacuum, replace the PCV valve. If not, replace the hose. It is important to note that PCV valves are sized for specific engine applications. The wrong PCV valve for an application can flow too much or too little air causing drivability problems. Although the PCV valve is a simple device, it is designed to reduce the air pressure inside the engine and redirect it to the air intake system. Since the air is contaminated with oil, gasoline and engine metal residue, this in time will affect the operation of the valve assembly. The valve can plug up over time, which will result in a poor running engine that delivers less power and reduced fuel economy. It is a simple and inexpensive repair that will help contribute to a fuel-efficient and smooth running engine. Review: Excellent part. - Excellent part. Easy install
Installed in less than a minute. Can't tell it made a difference but I'm certainly no mechanic either.

Good luck when the engine heat makes it brittle
While I understand that plastic parts are easier and less expensive to make than metal parts, they're also less durable. It used to be that PCV valves were all metal, and could take a bit of abuse. Then they started making the top half plastic/nylon, which still worked pretty good, but could be kind of fragile. Now they're all plastic and one of these turned a simple maintenance task into a 4 day expensive nightmare. The vehicle I was working on is 17 years old, so the rubber grommets for the PCV and breather were not as elastic as when new. That, combined with under hood heat that caused the plastic PCV to become brittle, lead to a PCV that literally fell to pieces as I tried to pull it out, with half the pieces falling inside the valve cover. Rather than pull the valve cover (difficult on this vehicle) I elected to remove the grommet and get the pieces out through the hole with forceps. The grommet needed replacing anyway, since it had hardened, and the hole was large enough to get the pieces out. Then it turned out that no one had replacement grommets because the part number listed in the common catalogs and part listings was wrong. It took four days, 150 miles of driving, and an argument with a dealer to finally get a replacement grommet. If this had been one of the old metal or metal/nylon PCVs I never would have had that issue, since it would not have fallen to pieces inside the engine.

It's an essential but easy to make Autopart
It's an essential but easy to make Autopart. You'd have to go out of your way to try and screw up making these.
