Its for replacing an old "Donut"on a close cupeled system.
This is a donut fitting for a close cupeled toilet cistern, was easy to fit as a close cupelled cistern can be. You can use silicon on the matting surfaces of the donut if you wish to belt and braces if you like. Note as you have to take the cistern apart it is a good idea to change the plastic diaphragm in the syphon if your changing the donut because its started to leak ! Also if you are fitting a new close cupeled cistern I would advise that the syphon to be fitted is a "Dudley" type which when the diaphragm splits/fails this type of syphon allows you to do this without the faff of dismantling the whole unit and only takes a quarter of the time, I feel that all new close cupeled systems should be fitted with this type of syphon (Dudley) as it saves time and waste.

Exactly as ordered
Maybe not suitable for some older toilets? When refixing the toilet it did not seem to be sitting on rubber and, sure enough, it leaked badly on the first flush. I added the original seal into the pan, the new seal on the flush pipe and that worked. The old fixing plate was well rusted so maybe the job wasn't done right many years ago when the siphon mechanism was replaced. So for some older toilets som extra sealing needed?

Rust prevention suggested.
Great pieces of kit. The metal parts are steel and are subject to rusting, so, either pre varnish them ( which I did) or coat it with copper slip. Also the rubber seal is subject to eventually cracking over time, so I suggest that the rubber seal is coated in vaseline to prolong wear. Also coat the bolts and wing nuts with copper slip ( a type of grease ) to prevent rust.

Don't reuse the old addled bits
Like any maintenance using new replacement consumable gaskets rubbers and fittings guarantees no leaks or costly timely rework through the reuse of old and often perished and failed components.
