where is the on/off switch located? I read some review about difficulty of operation.

It is on the surface of the ball and recessed somewhat. It is not always easy to turn off or on, but a small dog will have a lot of fun with it. Not a safe toy for a big dog and should be closely suprvised with any dog or child.

Is it made with real fur? Doesn't look like it but I can't tell for sure.

Is a fake fur. Very poor quality

how long does the battery last?

I put in a good AA battery and it is still going strong after several days of on again off again play

Is the ball made of plastic or rubber?

The ball is made of very hard plastic and opens up to hold a battery. The ball was not the problem. The issue was the connectivity between the ball and the furry thing attached to it. It was just a thin piece of plastic like what is used for garments to attach a price tag. It broke in 5-10 minutes.
