Satisfaction

If you like the horn rock of early Chicago and Blood Sweat and Tears, take heart. There was a lot more of this music made that you might know about. There is Keef Heartly, Loading Zone, and Cold Blood.And Satisfaction, led by Mike Cotton. Perhaps such lesser known horn bands were so due to progressive stance. Satisfaction, like the hidden groups mentioned above, were not interested in making AM hits. Satisfaction added brass to the all-encompassing approach that made late 1960s rock so bold.This album has multi-part songs, funk, ballads, and jazz. This album thrives as much on diversity as much as crack musicianship. Pay particular attention to the nimble flute work. Satisfaction were more interested in creating well crafted solos and arrangements more than they were brassy splash.A great album to start looking deeper into this often too commercial and under explored genre. Listen to Chicago and BS&T. Just don't be content with just scratching the surface.

As a fan of artists such as Tom Scott, Bobby Caldwell, and George Benson - this CD fit right in with them.I had never heard of the group Satisfaction (nor any of the musicians in the group) and purchased becauseI am trying to find different sounds to add to my iTunes library. I was very happy with this purchase. Thesongs are all from the early 70's but sound fresh enough to be on any "smooth jazz" format FM radiostation of today. I would recommend this disk to anyone that is looking for up-beat jazz that enjoys anice sax in the mix. Good to listen to while driving to take your mind off of traffic.

Having recently met a guy who mentioned he used to be a drummer on holiday recently I decided to take the plunge and google him when I got home. It turned out he was the drummer with this band! So I then decided to take another plunge and buy the cd - not at all disappointed. Really good songs, tunes and vocals. And the drumming is the best of course.

Les politiques disent parfois qu'il faut laisser du temps au temps.Si les boss des multinationales de l'entertainment respectaient ce précepte,sans avoir l'oeil en permanence collé sur les stats de vente,des artistes solo,des groupes,auraient eu le temps de développer leurs idées et de définir leur création. Satisfaction fait partie du lot.En ce tout début 70,on s'observait des deux côtés de l'Atlantique;et côté ouest,il y avait un mouvement baptisé,un peu rapidement Jazz Rock,mais qui était en fait du Horn Rock.Leurs représentants les plus significatifs étaient Blood Sweat and Tears et Chicago.Pourquoi d'ailleurs ne toujours citer qu'eux? Ils ont enregistré des tonnes d'albums contrairement à leurs homologues anglais comme Walrus,Heaven,Rock Workshop,The Greatest Show on Earth,Pesky Gee,etc...qui ne sortiront qu'un seul album,deux avec beaucoup de chance.Si on a pu être trés sérieusement ébloui par les deux premiers opus de BS&T(surtout Child is father to the man;Ah!Al Kooper)et idem pour Chicago (surtout Chicago Transit Authority;Ah!Terry Kath)on a pu s'apercevoir par la suite que leur carriére était inégale,mais ils eurent la chance de pouvoir continuer,et de nous offrir au milieu d'un ensemble passable,quelques titres voluptueux.Une derniére chose,les groupes américains(Cold Blood,Rastus,Matrix,Tower of Power,Ballinjack,etc..sonnent beaucoup plus jazz,blues et funk que leurs homologues anglais,qui ont plus une sonorité et démarche jazz prog. Revenons à nos amis de Satisfaction.Au départ,il y a la crédibilité du fondateur Mike Cotton,trompettiste de jazz,qui écume la scéne anglaise avant de virer Rhythme and Blues vers 63 avec des groupes comme Mike Cotton Band ou Mike Cotton Sound(tournant avec les Four Tops,Stevie Wonder,etc...)Il recrute Derek Griffiths(guitare)ancien des Artwoods où il fréquentat Jon Lord et Keef Hartley,Lem Lubin(bass)ançien chanteur de Unit 4+2,ixiéme combo liverpuldien,Nick Newall(sax ténor,alto et flute)John Beccham(trombone)et Bernie Higginson(drums)et tout ce beau monde va composer et écrire l'ensemble de l'album,à part un titre.Dés Just lay back and enjoy it,on sent que les cuivres vont prendre une part importante à l'affaire...jusqu'à l'inévitable(à l'époque)solo de flute(le syndrome Ray Thomas qui a traumatisé une génération avec Nights in white satin)suivi de l'amusant she follows the band(vécu?)typé pop fin 60's.Le groupe se donne parfois du temps(5/7mn)pour développer ses idées comme pour Cold summer ou l'envoutant Sharing où guitare et improvisation simultanée des cuivres nous ménent sur les rives de l'onirique.On retiendra aussi le surprenant et"moraliste"You upset the Grace of living when you lie avec un performant solo d'alto de Nick Newall.Le duo vocal Lubin et Griffiths avec Higginson au dernier chorus sur Just like friends,nous offre un traitement "symphonisé" du titre.L'album se clos avec Go through changes,où tout le monde va au charbon,qui,un solo par çi,un larsen par là,on se retrouve avec un final big-bandesque. Les bonus tracks sont les deux singles qui avaient attirés l'attention des gazettes à leur sortie.C'est juste un peu plus enlevé dans le tempo,sans plus.L'instrumental Gregory shan't,saupoudré de percu rappelle l'intro de I'm a man de Chicago.La boucle est donc bouclée.Si cet album n'est pas d'une innovation transcendantale,il n'est pas prétentieux,ne cherchant surement pas a se prévaloir d'une légitimité culturelle.Il fait son travail d'album,nous apportant sa petite part de rêve et de plaisir. A noter la superbe pochette Pop Art.Minimaliste mais efficace.

UNA EXCELENTE BANDA QUE ESTABA PIDIENDO A GRITOS UNA REEDICIÓN. PERTENECE A ESA ESTUPENDA SEGUNDA DIVISIÓN PROG-ROCK DE LOS 60's - 70's., CON TEMAS QUE HARÍAN HOY LA ENVIDIA DE TANTO MAMOTRETO SIN ALMA
