As Good as Dead: The Finale to A Good Girl's Guide to Murder

THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK SERIES IN EXISTENCE! I won’t spoil it but I will say if you love murder mysteries and a teensy bit of romance without the spice, this is the book for you!

Book was wonderful. Great story line, well thought out. This series is a quick read. I finished in a couple days. Perfect ending. I need the author to write more for the series! The book was delivered on time. I wasn't too impressed with the condition of the book and thought a better job could have been done packing it (maybe in a bubble envelope or box). Looked used, cover damage, spine worn, etc.

Loved it but would have like a longer ending. Where did they meet up. Was she in contact with the friends she left behind. Happily ever after would have been nice.

Very good read

I was very much looking forward to AS GOOD AS DEAD, the concluding book in the A GOOD GIRLS GUIDE TO MURDER trilogy by Holly Jackson. I loved the first, really enjoyed the second, and was disappointed by the third. The story starts off strong. Pip is suffering from PTSD & trauma from the events of the last book and is barely holding on and self-medicating. She struggles with the idea that people's actions and motives are not as black-and-white as she had always thought and finds her thoughts straying toward the gray. She struggles with raging hatred and anger toward Max Hastings, confusion and connection toward Charlie Green, and is searching for the perfect black-and-white case to sort herself out and set all of her emotions and thoughts to right. She finds herself the target of a stalker and possibly a serial killer and throws herself into the case in spite of the police not believing her (yet again). With no one to really rely on other than Ravi, Pip takes matters into her own hands in a devastating and monumental way. I do understand the reason Pip makes the decision she does halfway through the book, but I just can't get behind it. Holly Jackson leads up to it, but even with all Pip has suffered and struggled with, it still feels out of character for her and for Ravi. It was a huge turnoff for me and I immediately stopped reading around 60% in. I sped read the rest and read the ending to see if my feelings changed, and no, I just couldn't enjoy it. I do think a lot of people will enjoy this book, but I was too shocked by the twist and taken aback by Pip & Ravi's decisions that followed to feel connected to them or the story. This book is not for me.

Ever since I started this series, I knew without a doubt that it wasn’t one that could go unfinished. It was so new, so creative and so thrilling! I would lose sleep, wondering whodunit and try to put all the pieces together to figure out the villain before the reveal. In the first two installments, I was properly stumped. I didn’t see all of the pieces connecting to reveal the bigger picture until it was laid out in front of me. For this one… not so much. As soon as I started this book, I had an inkling who the suspect was. But, as I’ve been wrong two other times before, I ignored it. The suspicion created an itch that got worse the more I read on. And the more signs that pointed to the person, the more I denied the possibility. Until the reveal pointed out that it was them. And that was about half way through the book. So again I imagined that maybe it was a diversion (which was normally the case) and read along. After some criminal activity, which may I say felt a little off for Pippa and by extension Ravi. Idk but I felt like the characterization that was developed by the first two books faced a major hit in this book. It was like a 360 in behaviors and reactions. More on that later. So the book became less of a whodunit and more of a let’s get away with a crime and frame someone for what we did. Which, for all intents and purposes, would never be a bad thing if it was established at the book’s inception. I was reading to find out whodunit in a murder mystery, not to find out how intact my moral scruples were after some serious crimes took place. So the story felt as if it diverted onto a different path at the end of the series. Again, I wish there was more of an aha! moment so I could feel as gratified as I did with the first two. Despite all of what I said. And the moral quandaries that popped up out of nowhere. I would give this a 5 star and recommend for everyone to read this book. And not just this book but the entire series. Doubling back to the 360 in behaviors. It is interesting that we see all of these changes in Pippa at the book’s end because at the start of the book she was a ‘good girl’. See: A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. And completely changed at the end. So from my viewpoint, all of the events that took place throughout the books transformed her. She was no longer a ‘good girl’ and not by choice. She was made to be like them. They taught her everything they knew. Their blood was on her hands and seeped into her skin, infecting hers with the horrible things they did and continued to do. The one thing I hated was her ghosting her family at the end. I feel like the same impact could’ve been had without that inclusion. But of course that won’t change my feelings or rating. If you’ve read this far, you’re a star!

Is it true that every good novel ends in a "..."? 🤔 I'm not sure. But I DO KNOW this is a frustrating cliffhanger if this is all there is! 😬😳🫥 I VERY MUCH enjoyed the first book of this Trilogy "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder". It read like a true crime novel and was so good! The 2nd book was good, not quite as good, and there was one scene in which the protagonist behaved out of character, without natural consequences, and it really bothered me. But, it was still a good book. This book went down the path of the 2nd book. And strayed further from the 1st book. But you know me. Once I start a series, I finish it. Even though and even if... 🤷‍♀️ I definitely prefer ONLY the 1st book. Have not decided if I will continue to read more of Holly's books.

Full circle. A series that finally I feel answered and completed the story. Read the series. This book was my favorite in the series.

On peut vraiment dire que ce tome trois est une apothéose. En tant qu'autrice, je suis absolument admirative du travail de Holly Jackson. Elle a réussi à créer une boucle avec sa trilogie, une intrigue qui relit les trois histoires ensemble avec brio. Je ne sais pas comment elle a fait pour prévoir des choses depuis le premier tome, de glisser des indices insignifiants, qui prennent leur importance dans le dernier opus de la saga, mais c'est juste brillant ! On retrouve Pip et sa bande après la Spoiler(cliquez pour révéler) Pip est traumatisée, en plein stress post-traumatic et j'ai trouvé que ses sentiments étaient extrêmement bien retranscrits. On ressent même sa "presque folie" dans la narration. Un style un peu haché, un peu brouillon (qui ne nous empêche pas de suivre avec délice l'histoire). Ravi est toujours incroyable dans ce tome, plus que les précédents. Et je vais vous dire, le nom de cette saga (a good girl guide to murder) prend tout son sens avec ce troisième tome... Je m'étais d'ailleurs demandé pourquoi elle avait donné ce titre et je comprends, maintenant ! Quelle génie ! J'aurais mis ce tome dans ma liste de diamant si la fin ne m'avait pas paru aussi rapide. J'avais besoin d'un tout petit épilogue pour au moins me remettre du stress et de l'angoisse, du suspense insoutenable vécu tout au long des pages. Mais ce n'est que mon avis. Franchement, foncez, cette saga est juste incroyable ! Un coup de génie !
