Vocabulary has become increasingly more important for all types of 11 plus exams. In this book Rose McGowan sets out 100 exercises, to be completed one per day, to enhance your child's vocabulary. These exercises will help your child succeed in the 11 plus examination. Review: Great little book. - Really useful little book for revising, refreshing and learning. Each page has a little exercise to do, and while my son got massively fed up with 10 minute tests and the odd practise paper, he never minded doing these! Quite fun, and felt less like work for him I think. His vocabulary is pretty strong anyway, but it was still a good tool to have. It came recommended by his teacher who had used it for her daughter. Review: Good book for year 4 onwards - First of all, this is a good book. Although it seems a bit random and not very well structured. It does not have plenty of "wow" words as you might expecting for 11 plus. Some practice are quiet easy for students preparing 11 plus. However, it covers lots of areas and topics. My daughter is starting year 4. In my opinion, it's a good book to improve and consolidate her KS2 English, and it is very useful. But if you are looking for exam style sort of improving books, this is not right book.

Helpful book
This is a helpful book. Please disregard one star review. The book's main aim is to give a solid ground for passing 11 +, it's like a giant check list, basic but covers all the necessary areas. It does enrich and encourages to enrich vocabulary, for example, think if you can give 10 synonyms for the colour blue or red, if not, the book will help and when your child writes the composition and uses "claret" or "cerise" instead of "red", this might get her/him a vital extra mark. Schofield and Sims do the same job much better but then one needs to go through series of all their books in English and there are lots of them, however if you need to do the same job quickly then this is the book for you. Regarding the idioms, mentioned in one star review, there are questions on idioms in verbal reasoning as well as in comprehension when knowledge of idioms is necessary for understanding the text and for discussion of writer's language, not to mention its general usefulness of such knowledge. My daughter is great at spelling, she made about 5 mistakes in the whole book but these were mistakes in basic vocabulary so I feel that the book was useful.

Very good
Very good because the exercises are short but with material to learn. Useful for increasing vocabulary and reinforcing what you already know. I have been using with my child who will be sitting the 11+ & have been also learning new words. Would recommend just for knowledge alone not only for 11+.
