Whether it’s Double Indemnity, Kiss Me Deadly, or The Big Sleep, roam a screen world of dark and brooding elegance with this essential handbook to Film Noir. From private eyes and perfect crimes to corrupt cops and doomed affairs, editors Paul Duncan and Jürgen Müller examine noir’s key themes and their most representative movies from 1940 to 1960.Copiously illustrated with film stills as well as original posters, this book offers page after page of noir’s masterful visual compositions while exploring the narrative paradigms of this cryptic, compelling, and evolving genre. If that weren’t enough to tickle your cinematic appetite, the volume concludes with TASCHEN’s top 50 pick of noir classics.Brimming with the enigmatic dames, desperate gangsters, and psycho killers that continue to cast a long and captivating shadow over cinema, this is a must-have handbook for noir aficionados and amateurs alike. Review: Good book. Worth a read. - Very good book, very good read. Interesting facts about film noir, and great pictures. Review: NUMBER ONE FILM NOIR REFERENCE BOOK - This is a Taskin European digest-sized edition of Alain Silver's "Dictionary of Film Noir", originally published in the 70's. This book has the English actress from "Gun Crazy" on the cover; I happen to regard "Gun Crazy" as the best film noir, rather than others. I am glad to have this book.

Not a Reference Book
Nice enough little book, but shockingly, no index so you can't look up titles. Very disappointing. It's ok if you want to read about the genre. Also not comprehensive at all.

I'm so glad I ordered this book. It's a compact powerhouse of information and inside information about one of my favorite types of film. If you want a book on this art form, then I would suggest this one. Great buy!

Small but perfectly formed.
Beautiful book. Just what you would expect from Taschen. Do note the dimensions though, just in case you are expecting a large coffee table sized book, which this isn't. Superb book though absolutely packed with stunning photographs.
