Speyside today is widely revered for its sublime malt whiskies and for its fine salmon fishing. It is here, in this fertile triangle of land between ain and sea, long been known as the Garden of Scotland, that Cragganmore single malt whisky is distilled. Nestling on the banks of the legendary salmon river, Cragganmore is, for many, the home of the definitive Speyside malt. Cragganmore 12 Year Old Whisky Bottle Neck Close-Up Visual The ain Malt ----------------- Made in the highest working distillery in Scotland at an altitude of 1,173 feet (357.5m) with stream water that flows from ain lochs. Dalwhinnie distillery is situated between the gentle, grassy style of the Lowlands and the austere, firm body of Speyside which begins some 25 miles to the north. The style is that of the Highlands; a resilient marriage of gentleness and spirit. Made in one of the coldest inhabited places in Scotland, with a recorded average annual temperature of 6°C in 1994. Dalwhinnie means “Plain of Meetings” in Gaelic. It lies at a junction of old drove roads, between two ain ranges. Taste ----- A deep, golden colour, introduces a delightfully gentle, delicately smoky malt. Palate: A big, spicy buzz followed by an impressive build up of very clear, well defined malt. After a quick burst of sweetness, a rich, grape effect moves in towards the middle. Finish: Lots of oak. Very, very dry with vanilla dominating.
