Great pre-filter – removes chlorine smell and protects my system
I’ve been using this ICEPURE 10" x 4.5" 1-micron sediment + carbon filter as a pre-filter before my whole house water softener, and it’s been a solid upgrade.The biggest difference was immediate. The bleach/chlorine smell in our water is gone, which makes a noticeable improvement in both drinking water and showers. Water just feels and smells cleaner overall.It also does exactly what I need from a system standpoint. Filter is noted as being 10"x4.5" but would not fit correctly when replacing my previous filter (also 10"x4.5"). Decided to try the carbon filter because we have been having sediment issues lately so was looking for more filtration and decided to give this one a shot.I initially noticed that this filter wobbled in the housing more than the old filter, decided to proceed. When screwing on the filter ousing it wouldn't screw on all the way and I thought the filter might have gotten off-kilter. Took the housing off, checked to make sure it was straight and mounted on the bottom hole, and put the housing back on. Again it didn't seem like it would screw on all the way and I could still see threads, so I tried to screw it on a bit tighter just in case. Decided to try to turn the water on and it started gushing from the housing since it wasn't seated all the way.Took the housing off and pulled out the filter and the pre-installed O-rings were mangled from being screwed on tight. Took the filter out and flipped it around to make sure it wasn't mounted wrong, pushed it down in the filter housing, tried to screw it back on. Again it wouldn't screw on all the way, tried to tighten it down, again water started gushing from the housing since it wasn't on all the way.Took the housing off and stood the new filter up to the old, and the new carbon filter is almost .5" taller and .25" narrower than the old filter. The extra height explains why the housing wouldn't screw on all the way and the width is probably why is seemed to wobble more. Pictures show the size difference and the O-rings after trying to crank down the new filter, ended up cutting them out like cookie cutters. Looked inside after the water ran through it a bit and like others have posted, the inner filter material had already started to blow out. Requested refund and going probably try a different brand because this filter wasn't what it said it was.
