Backdraft Damper 6 Inch

Nice quality backdraft damper! Installed on a 10" range hood duct because cold air was constantly being drawn into the home. This remedied the issue and seems to be built very well.

Bought this for our new range exhaust hood because there was no damper that came with the very expensive Bosch hood we installed. Cold air and outdoor sounds came streaming in constantly. This damper fit perfectly over our 6" vent pipe within the hood to ceiling riser and cold air and outside sounds are gone!

I installed two of these to prevent backflow between my main HVAC air handler and ERV. One to prevent warm supply air from backdrafting into the basement ERV outlets and ERV itself when the unit is off, and one to prevent stale return air from the basement from mixing with circulating return air from the rest of the house. These are well made, easy to install, and open easily with low air flow. I used them to replaced two other spring loaded dampers that were creating too much static pressure (the springs were too strong). The shipping cost on these was a bit high, but I'm glad I got them.

The 14-inch dampers were easy to install. Taking the old duct work off the register box was the hardest part of the install (somehow the "professional" installers had located sheet metal screws where it was impossible to get a driver bit on the head). Once that was done, the dampers slipped right on and with a couple of screws and a little tape they were in place. As other reviewers have noted, they operate silently and the foam seat provided an air tight seal. It stopped a nasty downdraft of cold air that we had endured for years. The only reason it gets four stars is because of the shipping costs - they were 50% of the purchase price! While the 14-inch dampers were large, they were very lightweight and I don't think the excessive shipping cost was justified. I only hope that the savings on our heating bill over the years will justify paying this exorbitant amount for shipping.

I have two exhaust fans in adjacent rooms that I tied together with a tee fitting then went out the side of the house. One fan is 200 cfm, the other is 90 cfm. I ran into a problem. The air from the smaller fan was not exiting out of the house. Instead it ended up going through my bigger fan when it wasn't on (it didn't have it's own backdraft damper). So I introduced this seperate backdraft damper and it solved the problem! I have it installed horizontally. It's built solid and the flaps open and close freely and there is a nice seal. Excellent product.

Delivery and packaging were excellent! 5 stars The product itself is what gets 3 stars. Not Roofing supplie's issue unless they do additional quality control, but 2 stars for the gasket FAMCO put in which has an unacceptable gap when the flaps are closed. Just the worker moving too quick to put the gasket on straight. The concept is exactly what I am looking for of minimal downward force gravity itself plays on the weight of the flaps and the small amount of added tension the tape creates while being utilized as the hinge. 4 stars on engineering as I would like to have seen a mechanical bond of the tape to the flaps in addition to the chemical bond from the adhesive. No telling when the adhesive will give way from the perpetual heating and cooling of air flow through the product. Good design, bad execution, excellent shipping. posted 11-21-2025

Local home improvement stores carry only a small selection of mainstream sizes so it was nice to find the 5" diameter damper here. This was for use in a rental manufactured home where the built in damper was sticking open. This was a quick and easy fix to keep the cold air from rushing down into the kitchen. Is well made and I would buy this brand again if I need another one.

Good quality for a good price. It works great for my kitchen hood.
